A lasting gift for New Zealand children: What will you leave behind?
Barnardos is delighted to be part of Include a Charity – an organisation dedicated to raising awareness of the ease and
effectiveness of leaving a gift to charity in your will.
Include a Charity is the result of many New Zealand charities working together to do what no single charity has ever
been able to achieve on its own – to change the way New Zealanders think about wills.
Firstly, the campaign aims to highlight the importance of writing a will. Having a will is vital – it ensures that if
anything should happen to you, your family and loved ones are taken care of. Secondly, the campaign is aiming to
encourage people to leave a gift to a charity of their choice, after their family and loved ones have been provided for.
Gifts in wills form the foundation of many New Zealand charities, and without them, many charities simply would not
exist.

Why consider Barnardos?
If Dr Thomas Barnardo were alive today, he would be over 150 years old. Sadly he’s not with us any more, yet his work,
values and hopes for children are very much alive. He lives on in the smiles of the children who are protected through
his legacy.
Thanks to our services and the legacy left by Dr Barnardo, thousands of vulnerable children in New Zealand are
supported. We break the cycle of abuse to ensure that children now and in the future can reach their full potential,

• Over 125,000 children were supported through a problem that was troubling them thanks to our children’s
helpline, 0800 What’s Up
• Nearly 2,500 children received counselling and family support for issues such as domestic violence and mental
health problems
• Over 1,300 parents attended our group parenting programmes to ensure they are able to confidently provide a
nurturing and loving upbringing for their children.
