National Secondary Schools Tournament: Day One
Auckland, September 2, 2013 – Brilliant sunshine and immaculate fields were the sight that greeted the 24 teams who
gathered at Bruce Pulman Park for Day One of the National Secondary Schools tournament 2013. This is the tournament's
third year and the second with the 24 team format (16 Premiership grade and 8 Developing grade).
After a warm welcome at the host school Papakura High, it was over to the ground for team photos, a look around the
grounds and then, after lunch, the first round of pool play, with twelve games played on the six grounds.
Last years finalists St Paul's and Otahuhu again opened the tournament with convincing wins, while only allowing their
opposition to score once. In the Developing Grade Rotorua were big winners over the visiting Southland team.
There was a good crowd and a number of NRL scouts on hand to enjoy the opening day and the sun. Mai FM, the NZ Police
and NZ Touch were all in the tent city enjoying the music and chatting with both players and their families. Today's
