Two Silver Ferns have been ruled out of next month’s Constellation Cup through injury.
Silver Ferns Mid-courter Camilla Lees has been ruled out of the New World Netball Series against Australia with a stress fracture in her foot while Kayla Cullen has undergone scans revealing an ACL injury.
Twenty-four year old Lees was selected into the Silver Ferns team of 12 last week to play the 5-match New World Netball Series against the Australian Diamonds for the Constellation Cup.
Anna Thompson has been called into the team from the wider Silver Ferns Squad to replace Lees in the mid-court for the Constellation Cup matches.
Lees will remain under the care of Netball New Zealand medical specialists as she works towards a full recovery.
And Silver Fern Kayla Cullen has been diagnosed with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury and will be out of action on the netball court for at least seven months.
The knee injury is a major setback for the 21 year old, now unavailable for selection in the New World Netball Series for the Constellation Cup, Malawi Series, Fast5 Netball World Series and the Silver Ferns tour of England in January.
Silver Ferns Doctor Mark Fulcher said the injury will require surgery.
“We’ve had a look at the scans of Kayla’s knee and with this type of injury, the rehabilitation time is typically around seven months post-surgery,” Fulcher said.
“We just have to wait now for the swelling to go down.”
Cullen suffered the injury while in Scotland with the NZU21 side.
