New Zealand's Got Talent Launches New Season
New Zealand’s Got Talent launches on TV ONE on Sunday 15 September at 7.30pm.
New Zealand’s Got Talent wasn’t just the top rating show last year; it was the highest rating programme in New Zealand in a decade. Now the
second season on TV ONE is back, and is set to showcase a huge variety of talented Kiwis from all walks of life.
NZGT is a show for everyone. Singers, dancers, cultural groups, musicians, acrobats, and even animals are taking part.
Producers have travelled all over Aotearoa to find the best of the best. Now they’re ready to perform in front of new
and returning judges.
Rachel Hunter and Jason Kerrison return to the judging table, joined by Cris Judd, a dancer, choreographer and teacher
at the top of his game in the US. Having worked with some of the biggest names in music, Cris knows talent when he sees
it and will have valuable advice for contestants. Tamati Coffey is also back for another year to host the show and
provide encouragement side of stage.
In 2012, NZGT reached an incredible 869,300 viewers on average per episode. Every episode for thirteen consecutive weeks topped the
ratings – making the show a phenomenon which proved that Kiwis have endless support for home-grown talent and family
friendly entertainment.
TVNZ’s Head of Television, Jeff Latch, says; “The strength of NZGT rests with the diversity of talent, and the resulting breadth of its appeal to New Zealand viewers. This year’s talent
is extraordinary and we can’t wait to get the show on air in September.”
The Got Talent format airs in 50 countries and has cemented its place as one of the most popular and enduring entertainment formats
worldwide. That success can be put down to the fact that the show appeals to such a broad range of people across all age
groups. Show partner Toyota and sponsor Tip Top are confident NZGT will be another huge hit in 2013.
Toyota New Zealand’s GM of Marketing, Neeraj Lala, says that supporting NZGT is a great fit for Toyota. He says, “Last year, the first series opened up a new pathway for talented and creative
Kiwis to reach a national spotlight. This year, remarkable talent continues to flow from our community.”
The demography of NZGT contestants this year is as diverse as in 2012. The youngest contestant is aged just four-years-old, and the oldest is
a youthful 96. Performers have come from everywhere from Kaitaia to Bluff, and the range of acts taking to the stage is
even better than before.
Head of Commissioning at TVNZ, Andrew Shaw, says; “We’re seeing the quality of performers improve this year, not just in
the expected genres of singing and dancing, but also across the variety performances. People saw the standards we set
last year and knew they would have to be at the top of their game to compete. We really can’t wait for everyone to
watch, and to start voting for their favourites.”
New Zealand’s Got Talent premieres on TV ONE on Sunday 15 September at 7.30pm.
