X Factor Stars Join The Big Band Build
The New Zealand Music Foundation is happy to announce the addition of some of New Zealand’s hottest new talent to The Big Band Build.
Jackie Thomas - the winner of the very first New Zealand X Factor competition, will be joined by fellow contestants Whenua Patuwai, Benny Tipene, Moorhouse and Tom Bachelor in the very special and intimate setting of Auckland’s Holy Trinity Cathedral on Saturday October 12th. And for this gig only there is a special ticket deal – buy one get $15 off the second ticket.
A week-long event like no other, The Big Band Build is bringing together some of New Zealand’s most loved musical acts, their fans, community groups and corporate teams, to build a home for a family in housing need with the help of Habitat For Humanity.
At night those acts will perform in the beautiful setting of the Holy Trinity Cathedral. All proceeds from the concerts will go to The New Zealand Music Foundation.
Don McGlashan, SJD, The Phoenix Foundation, Anika Boh & Hollie, Shihad and the X Factor stars are all swapping their microphones for tools. Under the supervision of Habitat’s master builders, and with the help of hundreds of volunteers, they will construct a home on the forecourt of Auckland’s Holy Trinity Cathedral, which will later be transported to an Auckland site.
Expect never-seen-before performances from the ultimate Kiwi super group on Thursday 10th October when Don McGlashan, SJD and the Phoenix Foundation take the stage together. On Friday 11th October, special guests will join Anika Moa, Boh Runga and Hollie Smith. Saturday 12th October will see the X Factor stars each performing an intimate set and Wednesday 16th October to mark the completion of The Big Band Build will be a first-ever, completely unplugged gig from the legendary Shihad.
Tickets are on sale from NOW via www.nztix.co.nz and www.ticketmaster.co.nz

About The New Zealand Music Foundation
Music is used in many ways to improve the lives of New Zealanders. The New Zealand Music Foundation exists to support these endeavours. The Music Foundation knows that many others share the love of music and recognise its power to do good things. With music we can entertain, engage and unite many others towards this common goal and help achieve some remarkable things. The idea of ‘music supporting music’ is a powerful one that the Foundation wishes to encourage. The Foundation was established in 2012 for the purpose of: providing financial support to suitable entities that work toward enriching the lives of New Zealanders in need through music; and providing emergency financial assistance to members of the New Zealand music industry who are in need, or suffering hardship, illness or distress.
About Habitat
Habitat for Humanity builds and renovates homes in New Zealand and around the world in partnership with families currently living in substandard accommodation. Since their inception in 1976 Habitat have built over 600,000 homes, helping over 3 million people out of poverty housing and into a safe and decent place to live. Through its home building projects Habitat supports low-income families into home ownership, fostering a long-term partnership that provides a hand up into their own home. Habitat for humanity began in New Zealand in 1993. Since then it has helped hundreds of New Zealand families into their own homes, with the help of thousands of local volunteers. Habitat also works with and helps existing homeowners who are struggling through circumstance or hardship to maintain their own home. Habitat also leads hundreds of intrepid Kiwis overseas each year, who engage with Habitat’s projects across the world, from Samoa to Mongolia. Habitat provides “a hand up, not a hand out”. Partner families pay an affordable rent to Habitat that eventually comes of the value of their home. Families have an agreed time under these terms until they must seek a commercial loan and purchase the home from Habitat. This home ownership model is an aspirational scheme that supports deserving low income families out of overcrowded and unhealthy accommodation into a safe and decent home that can provided the catalyst for a new life and a new future.
