Onslaught 9 Set to Hit the Fan Saturday
Onslaught 9 Set to Hit the Fan Saturday
Onslaught is Dunedin’s main annual punk & hardcore music event is about to hit town for the ninth time this Saturday 24 August.
It is an opportunity to see 12 bands, including touring bands not normally seen in Dunedin, for only $10.
This year features three Wellington bands (Gutrot, Freak Magnet, & Awkward Death), a Nelson band (Gripper), two from Christchurch and one Invercargill, as well as 5 local bands.
Onslaught is the brainchild of Mark Tyler, and has been a fixture on the Dunedin punk calendar since 2004, featuring bands from as far away as Australia.
Its previous home was the dingy grimy downstairs of The Provincial Hotel. Onslaught has ventured north a couple times, including The Cook, but has returned to its south-of-the-Octagon roots in the excellent venue at the Dunedin Musicians Club in Manse St.
The first band will start 6pm sharp. And that’s not the usual Dunedin music scene 6pm – that’s the real 6pm, to allow enough time for all bands to play. Doors open 5.30pm.
Onslaught is a do-it-yourself event, not run for profit. It has a long tradition of the door charge being $10 for everyone, no exceptions. A bargain price to see to these 12 bands, and hopefully enough is raised to cover touring bands’ costs.
