THREE Wellington babes have grabbed the attention of international record and music bosses with their stunning new music video ‘Set The World On Fire’ – an artistic video filmed at two incredibly opposing locations, playing on the idea that there can still be elegance and sophistication in the darkest of places.
Now the three women – performing together as TRE-BELLE – are awaiting news from the same artist management group that worked with Beyonce and Jason Mraz. They have also been contacted by a major UK based music label with the view to launching their Kiwi brand of pop-opera to the world.
The idea for the video was the brain child of director Ben Fowler from Sideways Productions who was interested in what happens when two opposing themes collide. Before hearing the track, he was intrigued by the pop opera genre itself and the result of modern music marrying a classical vocal education. This was the first of the opposites colliding.
The song itself talks of being told one thing but the reality being much harder and despite dark adversity, rising above trouble to set the world of fire – that was the second colliding opposite!
Ben wanted to take the modern and classic theme one step closer and film the video in two opposing locations, playing on the idea that there can still be elegance and sophistication in the darkest of places.
The first location was Alberton, a grand old Victorian Era Colonial House in Mt Albert. It is beautifully preserved by the Historic Places Trust and importantly for Tre-Belle, meant they could play on the classical aspect of their music. Filming was done in a number of different rooms, all of which contained wonderful treasures.
As if the look of the place wasn't enough of a hook, Alberton was once home to three unmarried sisters who ran the house for 40 years after their parents died. Tre-Belle often refer to themselves as sisters so the location couldn't be more fitting.
The second location was a decrepit house located in Titirangi - TOTALLY opposite to Alberton. Set among overgrown trees, down a long muddy driveway with no lighting. According to local lore, the house is the site of a murder.
Tre-Belle are three hard working young ladies with the most beautiful pop-opera voices. Jennifer Little, Karyn Andreassend and Jess Segal all have a common goal to take pop-opera with a Kiwi flavour to a global audience. By day they have professional careers, but by night, Tre-Belle comes alive.
Success for Tre-Belle has been appearing at the 2012 Coca-Cola Christmas In The Park at Auckland’s Domain, three sold out shows at the PWV St James Theatre, the TSB Taranaki Festival of Lights, Wellington On A Plate for the Christchurch Earthquake fund, launch of the Pike River Trust which was highlighted by the Prime Minister being in the audience, and various other performances. They have wowed audiences with their unique operatic classics, produced two original singles, a music video, an album and toured throughout New Zealand.
