More than Half a Million Votes Cast in ‘the X Factor NZ’ Grand Final
The number of votes cast in The X Factor NZ Grand Final was 553,976 with Kiwis voting both via text and for free on Facebook.
Jackie Thomas was crowned The X Factor NZ winner on Monday July 22, with Whenua Patuwai second, and Benny Tipene in third place. The final totals were: Jackie Thomas – 257,151; Whenua Patuwai – 197,523; and Benny Tipene – 99,302.
PricewaterhouseCoopers have reviewed the count which shows that Jackie Thomas is the winner.
In an international first, the popularity of The X Factor NZ final three has also seen their singles (released through SONY Music New Zealand) take out the top three places in the current NZ Top 40 charts. Jackie Thomas’ single ‘It’s Worth It’ is certified gold and currently at #1, for the second week in a row. Benny Tipene’s ‘Walking on Water’ is at #2 with Whenua Patuwai’s ‘Something Special’ sitting at #3.
Jackie Thomas’ self-titled debut album is released on Friday 9 August, through SONY Music New Zealand.
This the first time The X Factor format has produced the top three singles in any territory in the world, to the knowledge of international format holders FremantleMedia.
The X Factor NZ has been a phenomenal ratings success for TV3. 1,326,000 Kiwis tuned into the Grand Finals Decider episode on Monday July 22 (5+ cume), which had an average audience of 598,100 (5+).
The Decider also rated well in the key demographics winning a 32.8% share of TV3’s target 25-54 audience, and a 39.3% share of the Main Household Shopper with children demographics.
During the series, 3,285,500 Kiwis (79.7% of the population) tuned into the hit TV3 show (5+ cume).
The X Factor NZ by the numbers:
• 122,573 Facebook fans (and counting)
• 886,220 Video on Demand (VOD) streams of full episodes
• 844,945 VOD streams of individual song performances
• 48 years of total VOD viewing
• 553,976 of votes cast in the Grand Finals, via text and for free on Facebook
• 3,285,500 Kiwis (79.7% of the population) tuned into the hit TV3 show during the series (5+ cume).
• 7,299,691 page impressions on The X Factor NZ website
