Smashing preconceptions – NZTrio tour 6-15 September
NZTrio is considered a national musical treasure. Its members, Justine Cormack (violin), Ashley Brown (cello) and Sarah Watkins (piano), have been described as the rock stars of the NZ classical music scene. For more than ten years now, they have taken an adventurous approach to music, mixing musical cultures and genres in their playing and combining much loved classical compositions with brilliant contemporary music. In particular, they delight in commissioning and playing music by contemporary New Zealand and Asian Pacific composers.
Following a successful tour in 2009, Arts On Tour NZ is proud to tour NZTrio, a favourite with Chamber Music NZ audiences, to the smaller centres in New Zealand. For this tour, NZTrio have designed a high energy, toe-tapping, smile-inducing programme that features music by local favourite Gareth Farr, Melbourne-born Stuart Greenbaum, some evocative early Debussy, and concluding with the ragtime, blues inspired, cafe sounds of American Paul Schoenfield. See itinerary below.
NZTrio programme:
Claude Debussy (France): Piano Trio in G Major
Gareth Farr (NZ): Ahi
Stuart Greenbaum (Australia): 800 Million Heartbeats
Paul Schoenfield (USA): Cafe Music
