Australasian Final 2013 sees the
Crawford Brothers take the prize…
GBOB, the world’s greatest Band Competition, held it’s Australasian Final in Sydney at the weekend. Seventeen fantastic
bands rocked the house down as a vibrant crowd packed out Wests Ashfield Leagues. The Finalists flew in from states
across AUS & NZ to compete for one spot in the GBOB World Final, which will be held in Bangkok in December this year. Over 30 countries will be sending their own representatives to compete and the first prize is worth US$100,000!
In a tight result, this year’s Australasian Final delivered a deserving winner in 4-piece Newcastle alt- rock band, the Crawford Brothers. After coming joint first in the NSW Regional Final, the bands confidence sky rocketed. It was clear from their
polished performance that their ‘big ideas for the Australasian Final’ had payed off. Their songs had an edge, and were
melodic and very catchy. The guys, Ben, Zac, Mitch and Ben were overwhelmed when their win was announced by Industry
Judge Michael Smith, and their supporters in the crowd went wild!
The Crawford Brothers have been working really hard to get their album finished, and their first single and music video will be released
online in the next month. This should mean guys will be on fire by the time they reach the World Final. It’s all
happening for them and it’s an exciting time!
The Crawford Brothers members Ben and Zac will be feeling the pressure in the World Final, as they have been in this position before, in GBOB
2008 with band Powerage. They were flown to London for the World Final , and managed to come in 2nd place that time round, just a
smidgen away from the US$100,000 grand prize! With 5 years more experience under their belt, and a new sound and
line-up, the guys have every chance of making it to the top!
Another excited band in this year’s GBOB Australasian Final, was runner up Pisten Broke, from Adelaide. They played good, honest Rock n Roll and gave a tight, solid performance. The guys said they were
rapt to have come second, and really loved the whole experience of meeting so many bands from different states of
Australia and New Zealand. They had a blast!
All the bands in the Final did extremely well – including 3rd place getters New Black Shades from Newcastle. This band gave a polished performance – the vocals were strong, and their songs were catchy and
really had the crowd moving.
The other bands (in alphabetical order) were: Asura Deva from Dalby, Blackbirds from Melbourne, Blu from Tamworth, Collins Class from Gold Coast, In Company from Auckland, Jungle City from Adelaide,Law of Attraction from Perth, Maddcatz from Albany, Roadkill from Hobart, Sworf from Cairns, The Archaic Revival from Sydney, The Bumbacluts from Brisbane, The Spitting Swallows from Geelong and The Whiskey Show from Wellington, NZ.
Every member of each band in the Australasian Final won themselves a pair of Converse Chuck Taylor shoes, and each band also picked up a FujiFilm Digital Camera. Sweet rewards indeed!
GBOB is looking forward to the next stage of the competition, and wishes the Crawford Brothers the very best of luck in Bangkok! They’re sure to make an impact as they did with the Australasian Music Industry
