Enjoy the best at Going West
Come and experience New Zealand’s top writers and performers at the Going West Books and Writers Festival 2013.
This festival, proudly brought to you by Auckland Council and the Going West Trust, presents and celebrates New Zealand writers, theatre and performance poetry.
Auckland Council Arts and Culture Manager, Kay Glamuzina says: “The Going West Festival contributes to the cultural wealth of Auckland, supporting our creative people adding richness to our daily lives.”
Kicking off on this year’s festival is the Going West Theatre Season with On the Upside-Down of the World.
Andrew Jull, Chair of the Going West Trust says: “We are excited to present the incredible tale of Lady Mary Ann Martin, a disabled Englishwoman who came to New Zealand in 1841, the young wife of New Zealand’s first chief justice. She set about learning te reo Māori and established a hospital at Judges Bay for the iwi of the area,” says.
“Her story is inspirational and this play will resonate with Aucklanders knowing that we are relatively close in time to 1841, yet worlds away from today’s Auckland.”
Written by Arthur Meek and directed by Colin McColl for the Auckland Theatre Company, this is a must-see production.
