Mayoral best wishes to Waiheke’s world famous senior hip hop crew
Len Brown is sending the best wishes of all of Auckland to the world’s oldest hip-hop dance crew as they head off from their island homes on Waiheke to perform in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Hip Op-eration Crew are 27 Waiheke residents aged between 66 and 94 years, and they have been invited to perform at the World Hip-Hop Championships on August 9.
“Crews from Auckland have dominated the World Hip-Hop Dance Championship for the past five years. Now our seniors will be joining Auckland’s younger hip hop performers in showing the world how to do it,” says Len Brown.
“I’ve seen the Hip Op-eration Crew perform, and I think it is wonderful that this inspiring group of people don’t let age, mobility, sight or hearing impairments get in the way of embracing this dynamic dance culture and the opportunities it has brought them.
“They will be superb ambassadors for Auckland, and on behalf of all Aucklanders I wish them all the best for their trip and their performance.”
