Our country's unique blending of artistic traditions
Although the author Bill Manhire observed that “Ralph Hotere’s larger, public works are often full of urgency and anger
and political grunt", the artist had many other styles: abstract and black, Maori motifs, Roman Catholic iconography and
line drawings, to mention a few.
This week's guest In Conversation with Noel Cheer on Face Television is well equipped to discuss the works of the late
Ralph Hotere. We thought this programme was so good that you would want to see a repeat of the Conversation with
Jonathan Mane-Wheoki, Professor of Fine Arts at Elam School of Fine Arts in Auckland. Last year he was given the Pou
Aronui Award for "outstanding contribution to the development of the humanities in Aotearoa-New Zealand" by the Royal
Society of New Zealand.
"In Conversation with Noel Cheer", Face Television, Monday July 22nd at 7:00pm, repeated on Tuesday July 23rd at 12
noon.
