Harcourts Joins ANZA Challenge to Fundraise for
Halberg’s 50th Celebrations
The Halberg Disability
Sport Foundation is proud to announce that Harcourts New
Zealand has come on board as a major sponsor of the
inaugural ANZA Challenge.
The ANZA Challenge is a
trans-Tasman charity event in which two teams of sporting
greats and celebrities representing New Zealand and
Australia race a gruelling 1300km around New Zealand from
15-20 October, 2013.
Funds raised from the ANZA
Challenge go to support the work of the Halberg Disability
Sport Foundation which is celebrating its 50th Anniversary
this year.
Harcourts is sponsoring the ANZA Challenge
‘Harcourts New Zealand team’, a group of Olympic,
Commonwealth and World Champion athletes, sporting and media
personalities who will run, row, cycle and sail their way
around New Zealand over five days.
The Harcourts New
Zealand team members announced so far are:
• Marc Ellis
– Former All Black and Kiwis Rugby League international,
television and radio host and businessman
• Nathan
Cohen – Olympic Gold medallist rower
• Gemma Flynn
– Black Sticks hockey player with 122 caps for New
Zealand, Commonwealth Games silver medallist and double
Olympian
• Alison Shanks – Current Commonwealth and
World Champion cyclist and former representative netballer
with the Otago Rebels
• James McOnie – Television
presenter and journalist
As New Zealand’s largest real estate group, Harcourts is an iconic organisation, much like the Halberg Disability Foundation. Both groups were also founded in Wellington, where the ANZA Challenge will begin.
Harcourts New Zealand Chief Executive Officer
Hayden Duncan says they are thrilled to be supporting such a
worthwhile charity.
“It’s particularly special as
Harcourts, like Halberg, is also celebrating a birthday this
year. We are turning 125 and sponsoring the event is a part
of our birthday celebrations. “
Geoff Burgess,
Chief Executive of the Halberg Disability Sport Foundation,
says the ANZA Challenge is thrilled to have this new
partnership. “Thanks to support from Harcourts, and the
family of event sponsors, every dollar raised from ANZA
Challenge entry fees and donations directly supports our
work,” he says.
“Further funding enables us to
continue to work with physically disabled young people and
their families, schools and communities to ensure these
young Kiwis don’t miss out on the health, wellness and
social benefits that sport provides.”
The Harcourts New
Zealand team of celebrities will be cheered on by school
groups and the public along the race route. Completing the
journey, the New Zealand and Australian public will join the
final stage of the ANZA Challenge in simultaneous 5km (for
school children) or 10km races in Auckland and Sydney.
These races provide the opportunity for students and adults
to pull on our national black jersey and represent the
Harcourts New Zealand team.
