Kiwi designers go global at New Zealand Fashion Week
New Zealand Fashion Week (NZFW) is excited to announce that international television network Fashion One will be attending New Zealand Fashion Week 2013.
After months of negotiations, NZFW has confirmed Fashion One’s attendance; ensuring that designers who show on the NZFW catwalk this year are seen by a global audience of millions.
Broadcasting 24/7, in 156 countries throughout Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, North, Central and South America and the Caribbean, Fashion One is a cutting-edge, global lifestyle and entertainment TV network, with a reach of over 100 million worldwide.
NZFW Managing Director Dame Pieter Stewart DNZM says that Fashion One’s attendance at this year’s event is very positive news for our local fashion industry and economy.
“Fashion One, with its fresh and fast paced schedule of programming is the perfect environment to showcase our designers and through Fashion One we will deliver them to a global audience, including important international media and buyers,” said Stewart.
Covering every designer at the trade event, the yet to be announced presenter will interview designers and get behind the scenes at shows throughout the week. Fashion One’s New Zealand Experience including catwalk footage will be cut into a half hour New Zealand Fashion Week Special, to be broadcast across the network.
In addition, any designers that stand out will see their footage join the regular Fashion One schedule, showcasing the hottest catwalk footage from around the globe.
NZFW is looking forward to announcing international media and buyers over the next few weeks, delivering a schedule that will leave no doubt how important showing at NZFW this year will be for kiwi designers.

Fashion @ First Sight
In what appears to be a first for Fashion Weeks around the world, New Zealand Fashion Week (NZFW) is developing an exciting and commercially driven new addition to its web platform.
This initiative, Fashion @ First Sight, will see 20-25 catwalk shots uploaded immediately after every show to a dedicated section of the NZFW website, ensuring fashion lovers can get an early taste of what to expect from every designer’s forward season.
Shooting the catwalk images will be Michael Ng, who has been NZFW’s official photographer for more than 10 years. Michael is one of the most respected catwalk photographers and is a regular at the biggest Fashion Weeks around the world, including Paris, New York, London and Milan.
While the catwalk looks from NZFW 2013 won’t
be available in store until Autumn/Winter 2014, visitors to
the site in the mood to buy can click straight through to
the designers’ own online stores and pick up special NZFW
deals and one-off bargains
NZFW Marketing Director Suzanne McNicol says the website development is another example of NZFW keeping ahead of the game and delivering on its objective to provide the best commercial platform for New Zealand’s designers to showcase their work.
“Since joining the NZFW team I have been impressed by its desire to keep refining the offering, ensuring it remains relevant to the current economic environment. While Fashion @ First Sight is a direct response from NZFW to fulfil its international objectives, it provides a platform that allows designers to sell and create hype around forward seasons and also benefit their current in-season stock”.

Cool Style in the Contemporary Salon
Several years ago, NZFW introduced Contemporary Salon shows to support emerging designers, who are too well established for New Generation shows, and have a strong developing identity.
Because these designers still need support to cement their brand, NZFW offers huge support for these up and coming designers of the future, as it does with New Generation.
Models, hair, makeup and production are included in a very accessible one-off price, with designers showing 25 looks. M.A.C brings their coveted range of makeup and latest hot lip colours to the Contemporary Salon shows. They are the preferred makeup of 80% of the designers at Fashion Week and loved by make-up artists and enthusiasts alike. Check out M.A.C’s latest lip colour “The Lipstick dreams were made of”. So you can get your fix of the vibrant, matte pink of Candy Yum-Yum. The colour most coveted by Makeup Artists and enthusiasts alike this season!
These shows are always well supported by media and buyers alike, who recognise that these are the designers to watch. Some well-known designers who have established themselves through this category are Jimmy D, Ingrid Starnes, Company of Strangers, Cybele and 27Names.
This year we have KMS as the official hair partner. They will also be doing a seminar on how to achieve runway-ready hair and in-season styles at New Zealand Fashion Weekend. Gorgeous long hair is a constant fashion theme on the catwalks, the street and the red carpet so check out their seminar and do look for their Touch Up Bar on site if your hair needs a 60 second makeover.
MIROMODA
Following the announcement of the seven Miromoda
Designers showing at NZ Fashion Week this year, organisers
of the annual Miromoda Fashion Design Awards at
Wellington’s Pipitea Marae recently signalled their
intention to host the first international indigenous fashion
event Miromoda International (M’INT) in Wellington in
2015.
The Miromoda show which promotes indigenous fashion
has become an important fixture of NZ Fashion Week since the
first show was initiated by Fashion Week founder, Dame
Pieter Stewart, in 2008.
This new indigenous fashion genre has not gone unnoticed, with a number of the 2012 winners receiving invitations to show at other fashion weeks around the world. The 2013 Miromoda line up will include two guest indigenous Australian designers, providing a flash of fashion inspiration from across the Tasman.
