Highly esteemed Maori Bible of 1868 available again
The Trinitarian Bible Society of Aotearoa New Zealand is very thankful to be able to present a reprint of the 1868 Maori
translation of the Bible. This was the first translation into Te Reo Maori, the culmination of 40 years of labour. This
translation has been out of print for many years, and could only be purchased at great cost.
The 1868 translation is an accurate translation in classical Maori, faithful to the Divinely-preserved Hebrew and Greek
manuscripts that the church of God has always used. This proven translation has been highly acclaimed for its idiomatic
relevance to the Maori people.
This electronically typeset reprint retains all the features of the 1868 translation including macrons. It is
well-bound, and has a black cover with gold letters.
The Trinitarian Bible Society acknowledges its debt to native and university level trained Maori speakers, including
those of the Tauranga Wananga o Aotearoa, for their services to this project.
The Trinitarian Bible Society wishes that the resolution of Ruini celebrating the completion of the translation be
fulfilled: "That the Word of God is the only true source of knowledge in Divine things. Let no one despise a small
beginning; a match yields but a small flame, but who can extinguish the forest it has lit!"
