New Zealand’s Frankfurt Book Fair pavilion takes out supreme award

The Ministry for Culture and Heritage congratulates Patterson Associates on their win at this year’s Interior Awards, where they won both the supreme award and the award for installation.

Patterson Associates, along with Inside Out productions, created the highly successful New Zealand pavilion at last year’s Frankfurt Book Fair where New Zealand was Guest of Honour. The pavilion cleverly used a combination of literature, film and live performance to showcase New Zealand’s writers and literary history. Water surrounded the main platform of the pavilion creating an island of culture, and ceiling lights created a night sky effect, reflecting New Zealand’s unique geography.

Ministry Chief Executive, Lewis Holden, says the win affirms the excellent work of the design team and the praise New Zealand received as the most successful pavilion in the history of the Frankfurt Book Fair.

“To have two wins at the Interior Awards makes a statement about the truly beautiful and innovative design Patterson Associates created for New Zealand’s year as Guest of Honour. We’re thrilled that the legacy of this project continues to bring success for New Zealand”
