Storm grounds the Royal New Zealand Ballet Swans
The severe storm in Wellington has grounded five Royal New Zealand Ballet swans who were scheduled to fly to Auckland this afternoon to showcase excerpts from Swan Lake in the performing arts taster event ‘Pick and Mix’ at The Edge.
Flights from Wellington airport have been cancelled and the earliest flight the dancers can be booked on is Sunday, which is too late for tomorrow’s scheduled performance.
“Having to cancel this show is incredibly sad for everyone in the Education Team who has worked and rehearsed so hard to create it. Pick and Mix is a great event that gets us up close with our Auckland audiences and we are disappointed not to be part of it.” RNZB Education Manager Caroline Dinniss.
As well as key excerpts from Swan Lake, the dancers were planning to perform a contemporary ballet choreographed by RNZB dancer Kohei Iwamoto called Wind from Us. Sadly for Auckland audiences, the Wellington wind has kept the RNZB from them.
