Face Television Schedule Week 22-28 June 2013

THE CONQUEST OF EVEREST: Celebrating the 60th anniversary of the ascent by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay of Mt Everest, we bring you this classic 1953 British documentary film directed by George Lowe, a New Zealand mountain climber and teacher who was a member of the expedition. Lowe documented the process from preparation stage, to the immediate joy of the team post-summit. The result, is part-travelogue, part lecture Lowe would teach in one of his classes. The film includes illustrations and the history of the mountain, the scientific reasoning for why they used the gear they were using, and the exotic religion and peoples of the surrounding area. It was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.
