Karin Bloemen Returns to New Zealand
Karin Bloemen is Holland’s best-known singer and Cabaret artist. She is a striking figure in the Dutch Theatre world.
Karin captivates the audience with her beautiful songs and bubbly performances, she moves and entertains time and again.
Karin will be in Australia and New Zealand in July and will perform in
Auckland’s Waipuna Lodge on Saturday 20th July, followed by
Hamilton at the Gallagher Academy of performing Arts on Tuesday 23rd. She will go on to
Foxton at the War Memorial Hall on Wednesday 24th to finish her mini tour in
Christchurch at the Grange Theatre on Saturday the 27th July.
In 2009 “Diva” Karin Bloemen visited New Zealand and performed her “best of show” at the Bruce Mason Centre on
Auckland’s north shore.
She went on to holiday and was completely won over by New Zealand as well as by the people she met. One thing was clear
when she left New Zealand and that was that she would return.
Memories of the Netherlands
The show “an evening with Karin” is like her 2009 “the best off” show and Karin has taken material from all her
different shows that she performed over the last 28 years.
The show is in Dutch, her sketches are often based around the various Dutch accents and she has that rare ability to
point out social and personal shortcomings that can sometimes be sharp and harsh but also human and gives the audience
the ability to see the funny side of life.
“Like four years ago I want the Dutchies to experience the traditional new year’s eve performance like Toon Hermans or
Wim Sonneveld, the Netherlands well known Cabaret artists from the sixties seventies and eighties use to do”, Karin
says. “Together, I want to touch their hearts and bring them back to the time they use to live in the Netherlands, back
to the village squares and dunking their biscuits with their tea (without milk). I could feel the emotion last time when
I sang Het Dorp from Wim Sonneveld ”.
Dutch Community in New Zealand
Karin regularly devotes her time to good causes, she supports Food Aid and did a performance where the audience brought
food instead of payment. She also supports The Dreamcather Foundation a non-profit organization, educating woman in
South Africa and make refreshment courses available to them. The ultimate goal is to develop an economically independent
existence for the woman and fight against poverty.
“I find togetherness and community very important, I look forward to meeting up with the various organizations like “Ons
Dorp” retirement home and “De Klomp” a small Dutch school in Christchurch that works on keeping the Dutch culture going
on the other side of the world. Not an easy thing to do”
“But it can also be much simpler and doing Raffles after the show and meeting up with Club members.
The two Australian and four New Zealand performances will be unique and special, it’s that rare opportunity the Dutch
community has to experience the best the Netherlands has to offer on their very own doorstep. Like in 2009 we are sure
tickets will sell fast so don’t miss out.

Karin Bloemen was awarded the “Pisuisse price” in 1984 followed by the “Pall Mall Export price” an award to help develop
young artists. This is something Karin took to heart and has never stopped growing.
She has gone from strength to strength as a singer and actor as well as a Cabaret artist appearing in many and a verity
of diverse Dutch Musicals, films, shows as well as many Television and Radio programs.
After six years on stage it is time for her first own Theatre show. “Bosje Bloemen” it is the first show in a list of
twelve successful shows being, Karin in Concert, La Bloemen, Everything…, La on Tour, Late Nights, Kameleon, De Diva en
de Divan, various Christmas Shows, Kameleon, her 25 jubilee Show and Absobloodylutely Bloemiliciously Fanf*ckintastic.
All shows are filmed by the VARA for television and are available on DVD’s
Over the term of Karin Bloemens career she is awarded the “Gouden Harp”, an “Edison” and the “Annie M.G Schmidt price”.
In April 2011 Karin is honored as an “Officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau”.
