Public have opportunity to nominate inspiring Kiwis
All New Zealanders will have the opportunity to nominate an individual or community organisation that is making a positive difference to the lives of others in the Kiwibank New Zealander of the Year Awards 2014. Nominations open on the 17th June 2013.
The Awards are now celebrating their 5th year and honour the contributions of remarkable individuals, organisations and community groups throughout New Zealand who inspire us through their commitment, hard work and achievement.
In 2012, a record 700 nominations were received and all New Zealanders are encouraged to recognise and reward those that that are making a difference to their communities and the nation.
Nominations can be made in one or more categories:
• Kiwibank New Zealander of the Year
• Coca Cola Amatil Young New Zealander of the Year
• Metlifecare Senior New Zealander of the Year
• Mitre 10 Community of the Year
• Kiwibank Local Heroes
The Awards are excited to announce a new sponsor of the Senior New Zealander of the Year Category, Metlifecare, one of New Zealand’s leading retirement village and aged care providers.
CEO Alan Edwards says: “We are very pleased to be involved with the New Zealander of the Year Awards, and in particular, recognising the success and outstanding achievements of our senior New Zealanders.
“These people are role models in their communities, and have often put in decades of time and effort, making a positive contribution to the lives of others. Whether it be in business, sports, arts, education or community involvement, this is a wonderful opportunity to recognise their efforts, and we would like to invite people to nominate someone over 60 years of age for this prestigious award”.
Each category winner of the New Zealand of the Year Awards will receive a custom made trophy and $5,000 from principal sponsor Kiwibank. All Local Hero nominees will receive a medal at public presentations throughout the country later this year and nominees in all other categories a Certificate of Achievement.
The current Kiwibank New Zealander of the Year is renowned author, academic and environmentalist, Dame Anne Salmond of Auckland. Dame Anne has dedicated her academic career to documenting cultural exchanges in New Zealand to bring about a greater understanding of New Zealand’s history and how we can develop a strong multicultural society for our future generations..
Dame Anne articulates a vision for a future of New Zealand that harnesses our unique combination of Maori and Pakeha heritage to build a vibrant and successful society.
