Festival of Colour: Festival News  - May 2013

The 5th Festival of Colour finished in fine style and the feedback we are getting is that our audiences  loved the mix and quality of the performances and our performers loved the warm welcome they got from our southern audiences. Planning starts now for 2015 and so we welcome your feedback on what you enjoyed and what you would like to see more if.

If you haven’t received one of our surveys then please send us an email with your comments to info@festivalofcolour.co.nz, we’d love to hear from you. Highlights for people include Laurel Devenie’s amazing one woman performance in ‘On the Upside Down of the World’, the physicality and style of Black Grace Dance Company and Michael Houstoun’s sublime playing of a selection of Beethoven sonatas. And we were thrilled to see so many young people enjoying the range of music in the Central Lakes Trust Crystal Palace, including our two late night performances by multi-instrumentalist Adam Page (pictured below performing to local school children at Mount Aspiring College) and the unique  and extremely talented Aaron Tokona.

As well as the range of paid performances, the Festival of Colour also supports the local community with an extensive schools programme and we had writers, story tellers and musicians visiting primary and secondary schools around the Upper Clutha and Wakatipu. There were also two sold out performances of ‘Ivy’ at the Lake Wanaka Centre about a cleaner in a dinosaur museum and her time travelling trolley saving the word from a meteor strike! The children loved this Capital E performance.

And as well as our free Street Theatre Day, and visual arts events – the Pouwhenua billboards and the moving Doc Ross exhibition ‘37’ - we were also pleased to be able to donate over $7,000 to Wanaka Rotary from the ticket sales for the Art at Home tour they organised. This will be used towards a local sculptural installation.
