Queen to Auction a Piece of NZ History
For Immediate Release:
On Saturday 18th May, a piece of New Zealand history will go under the hammer.
Miss Buckwheat, Iconic NZ Drag Queen and entertainer, has the honour of auctioning ‘Louisa Wall in White Light’ by New Zealand Contemporary Artist, Te Mete Solomon Smith. The portrait captures the essence of an inspirational New Zealander, marks a milestone in both National and Global history and celebrates human equality. The oil on canvas piece is an incredibly amazing investment opportunity and a simply sublime piece of art.
The Charity Auction will be held during the evening of the Countries Annual Gay Ball in the opulent setting of the Chateau Tongariro Hotel on Saturday 18th May. Art enthusiast and MP, Louisa Wall says “the portrait is absolutely stunning and a tribute to Te Mete’s talent and skill as a Contemporary Artist”. Te Mete had a private sitting with Louisa Wall in her Manurewa home earlier this year. The piece was created in anticipation of the successful third reading and passing of Louisa’s Marriage Equality Bill in Parliament. “I will be literally giving money away” laughs Te Mete “50% of all proceeds from the auction will go to the New Zealand Aids Foundation”. Te Mete will also be holding a Solo Exhibition with 12 pieces on display at the Chateau Tongariro Hotel from 17th-19th May. A portion from all sales during the exhibition will also be going to the NZAF.
“We’re very grateful to Te Mete for supporting the NZAF through his work”, says NZAF Executive Director Shaun Robinson. “HIV affects all New Zealanders, but particularly gay and bisexual men, so it’s wonderful to receive acknowledgement from community advocates such as Te Mete during events like the Gay Ball.”
The Ball is a ‘must do’ on the annual Gay calendar and “there is an incredible line up of entertainment, art, opulence and fun” says Chateau General Manager, Kathy Guy “It’s a fantastic opportunity for absolutely anyone to get dressed up and come along to enjoy a very special evening in a stunning setting ”.
