The Michael Hill International Violin Competition is a wonderful event and this year Festival Artistic Director Helene Pohl is serving on the international panel of judges. This from the competition organisers:
Chamber music features prominently in the prestigious Michael Hill International Violin Competition, recognised as one of the finest in the world.  Eighteen exceptional young violinists will collaborate with pianists Sarah Watkins and Diedre Irons in Queenstown for Rounds I and II performing the pearls of the violin and piano sonata repertoire.  The top six competitors will advance to Round III in Auckland to perform piano trios by Beethoven, Ravel, Mendelssohn and Brahms with  Michael Houstoun and Ashley Brown prior to the top three finalists in concerto performances with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra
Amongst the prize package, valued at over $100,000, is the 4th prize donated by Verna and Denis Adam, awarded to the competitor with the finest approach to performing chamber music.  Artistic Director of the Adam Chamber Music Festival Helene Pohl will be serving for the first time on the illustrious international panel of judges along with Christian Altenburger, James Ehnes, Ning Feng, Ida Kafavian (formerly of the Beaux Arts Trio), Dene Olding (of the Goldner Quartet), Ning Feng, and Dimtry Sitkovetsky

Troubadour Success!

One of the great successes of our 2013 Festival was out Community Outreach Programme where we engaged four young musicians to perform in the community during the Festival. The Troubadour Quartet and went on to perform to great acclaim.
Following their success in the Festival and an invitation from the Penderecki String Quartet to travel to Canada, Jonathan, Annabel, Alice and Sophie have decided to continue performing together and have changed their named to Quadrivium (where four roads meet - nice name!).
We wish them every success in their endeavour.
You can follow their progress (and read about their exploits during the Festival) Here
