Symposium
Time is running out for heritage
groups in Auckland to sign up for the free New Zealand
Historic Places Trust (NZHPT) Community Heritage Symposium
focusing on historic heritage and the Draft Unitary Plan for
Auckland Council.
The NZHPT is organising the
one-day symposium on May 18 to discuss current planning
issues that may have an impact on Auckland’s historic
heritage in the future, and to share knowledge and
experience.
“The Draft Unitary Plan is a very
important discussion document that will determine many
aspects of Auckland’s future – including care and
management of its historic heritage,” says the NZHPT’s
Auckland Area Coordinator, Judy Grieve.
“This is
a great opportunity for heritage interest groups in Auckland
– or individuals who are involved in advocating for
Auckland’s historic heritage – to take part in a
programme aimed at increasing understanding of the Draft
Unitary Plan.”
The symposium will take place
between 9.30am and 4.30pm on Saturday May 18 at the Auckland
University of Technology Business School City Campus, and
will include a series of talks and workshops on different
aspects of the plan along with heritage advocacy. Topics
will include a look at the structure and purpose of the
plan, as well as issues like character and nominations to
the schedule.
The symposium will also provide an
opportunity for people to discuss issues and share ideas on
making effective submissions.
“The symposium is
ideal for people who really want to make a difference for
historic heritage in Auckland,” says
Judy.
