$30,000 grant helps keep Kiwi kids safe
Jetstar awards $30,000 to Safekids New Zealand as part of the Flying Start Programme
Grant to be put towards educating school children on scooter safety how to be safe on holidays
2013 Q2 Jetstar Flying Start Programme grant applications now open.
Jetstar today announced that Safekids New Zealand would receive the airline’s fifth Flying Start Programme grant, which
is made up of $15,000 cash and $15,000 in travel.
Safekids New Zealand says it will use the grant to raise awareness on scooter safety for children and how to be safe on
holidays whilst still having fun.
Ann Weaver, Director of Safekids New Zealand, says scooter safety awareness is low between parents and children.
“It’s wonderful to see kids getting active and as scooters continue to grow in popularity it’s important for children,
parents and schools to take a few simple steps to help avoid serious injuries – such as wearing a helmet at all times,”
says Ms Weaver.
Jetstar Flying Start Programme judge and rugby league legend Steve Price says as a dad he is right behind the Safekids
initiative to improve safety on scooters and how to be safe on holidays with a sense of fun.
“Any parent will tell you the safety of your children is paramount. Riding scooters is fun and a great form of exercise
and, with the right safety gear, injuries can be prevented.”
David Hall, Jetstar Australia & New Zealand CEO, said the airline appreciated the holistic approach Safekids is taking to help raise safety awareness.

The Jetstar Flying Start Programme has awarded $150,000 in travel and cash to five New Zealand not-for-profit
organisations since early 2012. Applications for the next grant close at 5.00pm (NZST) on 30 June 2013. Any New Zealand
based not-for-profit community group or organisation in need of a Flying Start is encouraged to apply. Full application
