BIG LAUGHS
DURING OPENING WEEKEND
AN OPENING
WEEKEND TO REMEMBER
Comedy revellers came out in their thousands as the weekend marked the opening of the 21st NZ International Comedy Festival!
Both Auckland’s annual Comedy Gala and Wellington’s First Laughs saw packed houses, along with the fifteen sell-out shows that opened throughout the City of Sails.
Almost 1 million viewers tuned into TV3's 90 minute
broadcast of the Comedy Gala on Sunday
night
(5+ cume = 985,000, TV3* overnights), 62,100 more
than in 2012. ‘The average audience for the broadcast
was 329,700 (5+, TV3*) and the programme was a huge hit with
younger viewers, winning its timeslot in the key 18-39,
18-49 and 25-54 demographics’, said TV3 Publicity
Manager Rachel Lorimer.
With the weekend having set the tone for the rest of the Festival, week #1 has already seen international comedians Jack Dee and Trevor Noah achieving sell out houses. Now more Festival acts – both local and international are following suit.
Auckland and Wellington have three more weeks of laughter to share and just to make sure no Kiwi is left out - 12 centres across the country will get their laugh quota delivered personally by the 2Degrees Comedy Convoy from May 13! Hosted by Ewen Gilmour as seen in the Comedy Gala and with Guy Williams (2012 Billy T Award Winner, Jono & Ben at Ten), and British comedian Chris Martin; American stand-up comedian and travel writer for the Huffington Post Tom Rhodes; and the hilarious Jesse Griffin (7 Days & Golden)!
The Festival is making the call to comedy lovers around the country - book your tickets now before you miss out!
