Teens encouraged to register for ‘The Vegas Games’ this weekend
Rotorua District Council (RDC) is encouraging local teens to register for ‘The Vegas Games’ this weekend.
The event has been organised by Rotorua District Youth Council and Ira Matatau Active Citizenship Programme and is being held at Western Heights High School on Sunday [5 May] from 1pm to 4pm. The competition offers a variety of sports for 13 to 18 year olds including touch rugby, dodgeball, soccer, basketball, volleyball, power pulling, an obstacle course, and horizontal bungy.
RDC youth projects officer Jill Campbell says cash prizes of $300 for first placegetters, $200 for second, $100 for third is up for grabs, as well as and heaps of spot prizes and prizes for best dressed.
“Our youth council organised this social multisport tournament to celebrate Youth Week and to have activities of all kinds available for young local people. It’s a fantastic day for teens to get active, have fun, and even be in to win some prize money.”
Teams are six to eight players and need to register by 5pm on Wednesday [1 May], and each team must have two female players. Entry is $7 per team.
Registration forms are available from the Council, Rotorua Youth Centre or can downloaded from www.facebook.com/rotoruayouthweek2013. Completed forms can then be delivered to Rotorua District Council Customer Centre or handed to a youth councillor at school.
