The ITM Fishing Show Kicks Off its Tenth Series on Saturday
Fans Can Expect Plenty of Quality Fish In This Series, Along with All the ‘How To’ Secrets Revealed.
The ITM Fishing Show kicks off its tenth series on Saturday May 4th.
Ten years on air is quite an achievement for a TV show.
It’s hard to believe that a show produced out of a Far North garage is going so well, and still coming up with a seemingly endless supply of fresh new content.
Fishermen, or should I say ‘fisher-folk’, the men, woman and children that get out and cast a line themselves, they love the show, no surprises there.
But what does come as a bit of a surprise is that in the recent TV Guide Viewers Choice Awards, where over 260,000 votes were cast, The ITM Fishing Show came in as New Zealand’s third favourite show out of the hundreds of shows that screen here.
So what is it about The ITM Fishing Show that appeals to such a wide range of Kiwi’s?
Rather than answer that question himself, the shows producer and host Matt Watson put it back to the fans, and their answers formed the new series promos.

Shane Cameron reckons the show is “kiwi as!” and Marc Ellis likes to see Matt get beaten by a fish.
Ash Livingston, sheep farmer from Taihape, claims “it’s all the exciting places they go”, while Northland builder Andrew Herbert says he tunes in to see all the big fish that he watches with awe and envy.
“Geez that skinny little bugger catches some big fish!” Ten Years - Really?
While Matt promises more of the things his fans love in this series, there are also some new filming techniques introduced.
Cameras are going higher with the use of kites to get amazing overhead views, and deeper, with a specially built camera complete with lights that follows baits into the deep, dark depths.
“We get a huge kick out of getting footage no-one has seen before, we use up a lot of our fishing time rigging cameras and experimenting with new techniques, but when we get that few seconds of gold where a fish slams a bait or lure, it’s all worth it” So expect to see some more jaw dropping scenes from the new camera angles this series.
And if big fish and fishing action is your thing, well, Matt has left us with this tantalizing tease; “We’ve just filmed what is our best ever footage, and the most amazing fishing I have ever experienced, I can’t wait to see how people react to it later this year” Locations in series ten cover New Zealand from Cape Rienga in the North to Queenstown in the South, and from East Cape to the West Coast of the South Island.
Offshore locations include Niue, Australia and Rarotonga, and some further off the beaten track, like Atiu and Nova Scotia.
Series 10 of The ITM Fishing Show starts at 5.30pm Saturday May 4th on TV3.
