With the completion of the Dakhla (Morocco) and Mondial de Vent (France) events on the 2013 PKRA (Professional Kite Riders Association) World Tour, Mt Maunganui born kiteboarder Marc Jacobs underlined his No. 2 world ranking, placing 2nd in both events to Alex Pastor (Spain). Competition at the top is extremely tight, with little separating the top ranked kiteboarders, including Netherland’s Youri Zoon, Brazil’s Eudazio Da Silva, Germany’s Maria Rodwald and UK rider, Arron Hadlow.
Marc initiated his double handle passes allowing him to win his heats eventually meeting Pastor in the final, after eliminating Arron Hadlow, 5-time world champion and Youri Zoon, current world champion on his way. Providing Marc with the highlight of his tour in France and reaching a new career milestone.
Flying his favorite kite the ‘Combat V2’ designed and supplied by Marc’s sponsors Switchkites, an up and coming innovative New Zealand kite manufacturer, Marc used a combination of power and flawless consistent maneuvers to secure his world title ranking.
Marc is always ‘fine’ tuning his gear and working closely with Switchkites designer kite legend Bill Hansen (California, US), he produces consistent world class performances. MJ (as known by his fans and friends) has been kiteboarding for 10 years, and the training ground for his success has been the pristine surf beaches of Mt Maunganui and Pukehina, BOP, New Zealand.
Ask Marc what it takes to be a world champion – “focus and commitment, you have to be very determined if you’re not it will never happen”.
Marc’s next stop on the world tour will be in at Marsala, Italy in June. Go Kiwi!
Combat V2 are available at www.switchkites.com within the next two weeks.
