NZ On Air: Local Content Report 2012

The 2012 Local Content Report shows a small increase in total local content hours largely driven by sport and extended hours on Māori Television. Total local content passed 12,000 hours for the first time.
The report is compiled by NZ On Air each year and looks at all local content shown on TV One, TV2, TV3, FOUR, Prime and Māori Television.

While there was an increase in local content overall, first run content (excluding repeats) decreased by six per cent to 7,667 hours. Repeats were up eight per cent, mainly because of Maori Television’s extended hours.

The report shows 32 per cent of the programming screened during the 18-hour day (6am – midnight) and 35 per cent of the programming in primetime was local content.

News, Current Affairs and Sport comprise 48 per cent of local content hours. The most first run local content is shown on TV One and Māori Television shows the most local content in primetime.
