Celebrations Dutch Royal Succession - 30 April 2013 in NZ
Press release
On 30 April
2013 H.M. Queen Beatrix will abdicate; on the same day
H.R.H. Prince Willem-Alexander will be invested as King of
the Netherlands
Celebrations all over
the world, also in New Zealand
After 33 years as Head of State of the Netherlands H.M. Queen Beatrix has decided to step down on the 30th of April. On the same day her son H.R.H. Prince Willem-Alexander will be invested as King of the Netherlands. Both the abdication and investiture will take place in Amsterdam.
Every year during Queen’s day celebrations, the streets in the Netherlands turn orange. This color is strongly related to the name of the Dutch Royal Family: Oranje-Nassau. This year’s celebrations are expected to be even more spectacular.
Celebrations aren’t limited to the Netherlands, but are taking place all over the world, including in New Zealand. Dutch societies and communities in New Zealand are organizing events to celebrate this special occasion. The major Royal Succession celebrations in New Zealand are listed below.
From 2014 onwards King’s Day will be celebrated on the 27th of April.
