Debbie and the Downers release their debut self titled album
Rhythmethod
Debbie and the Downers are a 2 piece band out of Los Angeles and Auckland. The band consists of ex pluto members Milan Borich and Tim Arnold, with contributions from Geoff Maddock (BressaCreatingCake/Goldenhorse) and Paul Burnell (the Mercinaries).
Their self titled debut album was recorded predominantly at Milans home studio in NZ, which was demolished after the recording (a la Lee Scratch Perry) and then finished at Fotogenics Recording Studios in LA. It is released on Rock Bottom Records.
Formerly called the Communist Party, Debbie enjoyed a high profile, high flying live stint in Los Angeles circa 2010-12. Shows included residencies at top strip clubs Cheetahs and Crazy Girls, regular slots at hipster joints Harvard and Stone, 3 Clubs, The Monty, the Downtown Standard and High Fidelity Records. They also played a funeral. R.I.P. Chris the Pirate.
Debbie is residing in Auckland for the time being. She is working on her new album, which will be a more visceral and violent affair. She is also working on the recruitment of new artists for her label Rock Bottom Records.
She will be playing live in Auckland in late May... watch this space!
