Changes Aplenty For Cox Motorsport
The off season has seen plenty of changes for Sloan Cox and the Cox Motorsport team as they count down to their opening
event of the season, Rally of Maramarua, this weekend.
The biggest change for the team will come in the co-driver’s seat, with regular co-driver Tarryn Cox unable to partner
brother and driver Sloan for the season due to professional opportunities. However the team are pleased to announce that
local co-driver Sarah Coatsworth will sit beside Sloan for this weekend’s event.
“We did a hillclimb together last weekend and that went really well. To me it felt like we worked well in the car and I
could drive and push to her notes,” says Cox.
With Group N being phased out of New Zealand Rallying, the team have spent time over the off season removing weight and
adding power to the Taslo Engineering Mitsubishi Evo 10. This included modifying internals and a new turbocharger set-up
that increases performance without compromising drivability, however there is still a lot more that can be done.
Cox competed in this event last year and with that experience under his belt, is confident that his MRF tyres will suit
the unique forestry roads. The 21-year old looks forward to the event with its relaxed atmosphere, claiming last year’s
Maramarua Rally was one of the most enjoyable events he had done in a long time.
The unique reverse seeding system sees Cox start 43rd in the 45 car field for his first event of the season. The
Maramarua Rally starts from Maramarua Forest headquarters at 9am on Saturday with nine special stages all based in the
forest before touring back to the finish at the Hamilton Car Club just before 5pm.
