Fourth in Sunday Feature Best for Bray in the USA

Fourth place in the second feature race of the weekend on Sunday afternoon was the best result for Kiwi karter Daniel Bray at the season-opening SpringNationals kart race meeting in the United States over the weekend.

The double-header meeting at the Musselman Honda Circuit in Tucson, Arizona, hosted the first two rounds of this year's Superkarts USA Pro Tour with works GP Karts driver Bray - the 2011 title holder in the premier S1 class - again going up against CRG teammates Fritz Leesmann (the 2012 champion in the S1 class) and 2012 runner-up Joey Wimsett.

Bray, 25, who successfully defended his New Zealand Open class kart title at the GoPro KartSport New Zealand National Sprint Championship meeting in Wellington over the Easter weekend, admitted last night that he struggling 'a little bit' on the first day of competition on Saturday.

In qualifying he could only manage the sixth fastest lap time then after finishing sixth in the first heat and seventh in the second he was forced to work his way back up through the field from 12th to seventh place in the feature race after the driver in front of him stalled at the start.

He had a better day on Sunday though, again qualifying in sixth place but able to get up to third place in both heat races - crossing the finish line behind Leesmann and Wimsett - and finishing fourth in the Feature.

As he has done for the past two years Bray will commute back and forth from his Auckland base to rounds of the Pro Tour this year, the third and fourth being held at the big SummerNationals meeting in Colorado in July, the fifth and sixth at the 17th annual SKUSA SuperNationals in Las Vegas in November.
