Tui Brewery to Host Big Rigs for a Good Cause
Big rig motors will take centre stage in Mangatainoka this month when Tui HQ hosts its third annual Toki Truck Stop Show & Shine.
The family-friendly event, to be held on Saturday, April 27th, is expected to attract 100 trucks from all around the
North Island with any profits made being donated to the Prostate Cancer Foundation. The event is free to the public.
Mangatainoka truckie and owner of D & J Fitzgerald Transport, Dean Fitzgerald, says he’s revved up for the event and can’t wait to showcase his “baby”, a
1990 Western Star. Dean says he has spent years reconditioning and upgrading the former logging truck so that it now
features a sleeper cab and “fair bit of bling”.
“People are familiar with my Western Star as we use it a lot for fundraising events, so we’re really excited to bring it
out again for the Toki Truck Stop and be part of this great community event,” he says.
Dean says is looking forward to catching up with his mates and sharing stories from the road. He will be well supported
by his work colleagues who will bring the company’s three stock trucks.
“We’re a tight knit community and the camaraderie between the drivers is fantastic. I think members of the public who
come along will feel that straight away,” he says.
“There’s going to be an impressive line up of rigs on display so I encourage all local operators with trucks to join us
up at Mangatainoka and encourage those people just passing through to call in. Also knowing that any money raised is
going to the Prostate Cancer Foundation and to those who need it, is great.”
Tui HQ manager Jenny Holmes says the event will feature an impressive truck display with prizes being awarded for the
biggest rig; best working truck; best company truck; show & shine; best independent truck and the best dressed driver. In addition there will be live entertainment, free brewery
tours between 11am – 2pm and food provided by a number of community groups.
“There’s going to be something for everyone – from logging trucks, milk tankers and live stock trucks to dump trucks and
cement mixers,” says Jenny. “It’s the perfect family day out and all for a good cause.”
The Toki Truck stop will begin at 9am and finish at 3pm. Admission is free to the public, while those wanting to show
their trucks can pay $10.
Jenny says Toki Truck Stop is the perfect boys’ day out and encouraged fathers to bring their kids to check out the
dozens of trucks that help transport life’s necessities, for example food, petrol, milk and appliances, round the
country.
