V8 Racing Car Simulator has Pacific Pearl Passengers Revved Up
P&O Cruises’ passengers are in for the ride of their lives following the introduction of revolutionary new V8 Super Car racing simulators on superliner Pacific Pearl, being homeported in Auckland from 19 April to 24 June.
Pacific Pearl will sail on six round-trip itineraries from Auckland, including two 10-night P&O Islands Discovery cruises and two nine-night P&O Islands Hopper cruises which all take in the splendour of Noumea, Lifou and Vila among their Pacific port calls.
On board, the simulators provide passengers with a realistic driving experience across a range of famous race circuits, including Mount Panorama, home to the famous Bathurst 1000 road race.
Pacific Pearl is the first in the P&O Cruises’ fleet to have the V8 simulators installed, with plans to roll out the technology across sister ships Pacific Dawn and Pacific Jewel later this year.
The simulators form part of a range of new family activities that are being introduced across P&O Cruises’ fleet this year, and follow the recent debut of the Broad Shorts animated filmmaking program.
Carnival Australia Vice President Hotel Operations Sture Myrmell said he was confident the new simulators would appeal to racing fans of all shapes and sizes.
“They definitely tick the box as being an entertaining family activity and will provide hours of fun as our guests try to outdo their lap times and each other,” Mr Myrmell said.
“With families making up one-third of P&O Cruises’ passenger numbers, the cruise line is really focused on making cruising fun for the whole family,” he said.
“It’s through new activities like the simulators and the Broad Shorts program that we can continue to meet our goal of being Australia’s favourite family cruise line.”
Passengers can enjoy all the thrills of a simulated high speed race from just $10 a session. Once the Pacific Pearl departs Auckland bound for Sydney on 24 June, Auckland won’t see another cruise ship until the arrival of Princess Cruises’ Sea Princess on 29 August. The 2013/14 season will hit its stride from November.
