Kiwis love Andrew London and the lyrics he dreams up as a performer with Hot Club Sandwich.

And given the number of Kiwis who claim Scottish descent, it is not surprising that Steve McDonald’s Celtic inspired music inspires floods of patriotic nostalgia and over a million CD sales worldwide.

Now the two team up in Haggis Sandwich, a wide-angled and often irreverent approach to Kiwi culture – where some of it came from (Scotland), where it is now, and what we can expect in the future, given the everyday issues that consume and confuse so many of us. Food fads, youth culture, male insecurities, weddings, rugby, coffee – all of these and more are explored and exploited in Haggis Sandwich.

Andrew London

A self-taught guitarist, Andrew London has performed with rock bands, jazz trios, stage shows and as a soloist. Now living on the Kapiti Coast, he is primarily involved with the acoustic swing trio, Hot Club Sandwich which has entertained all over the world at jazz and arts festivals, playing a repertoire of Andrew's original songs. Hot Club Sandwich has released eight CDs, one of which gained a four star review in Downbeat USA, the world's most widely read jazz publication.
Andrew also plays, writes and records with Wellington five piece country-rock band The Cattlestops. Over the years he has played with many Kiwi icons, including Ray Woolf, Rodger Fox, The Nairobi Trio, Malcolm McNeill, Rob Guest, Marg Layton and John Rowles. His recordings receive airplay in Europe and the USA and some have been included in European CD compilations. His song, 'Middle Class White Boy Blues' featured recently on Radio NZ National’s ‘Greatest Song Ever Written' section.
Steve McDonald

Steve McDonald performs regularly in the United States and has a popular following in many countries, including Scotland - his CDs are on sale at Edinburgh Castle.
Born in Wellington in 1950, he began taking piano lessons at the age of five. Following a classical music upbringing, he quickly became interested in pop/rock music and performed with various rock bands, including Human Instinct.

Much of the 1980s was spent touring Australasia as a solo keyboard performer, rising to prominence when he won several songwriting awards, including the prestigious ABU Asian Pacific Song Contest. Settling back home, he worked with TVNZ’s musical director Bernie Allen to write and produce over 200 soundtracks for documentaries and televised events, including the America’s Cup Challenge.

In 1992, after a friend sent him a scroll containing a brief history of the name McDonald, he became interested in the powerful stories behind the clan system in Scotland and determined to put this history to music. These record the history of Clan McDonald amid the rich history of Scotland and tell of various run-ins with the English as well as the great Scottish diaspora to Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
