Gift Book Mounts Charm Offensive for Mother’s Day
A delightful book that Whitcoulls has picked up for the Mother’s Day gift market is considered a NZ first, according to some Industry insiders.
Kiwi Kids’ Letters to Mum is an enchanting collection of 52 mostly illustrated extracts from letters written by NZ Primary School Children to and about their Mums.
The first of a series of books, Kiwi Kids’ Letters to Mum borrows its general format from US and UK book series’ involving Children from the 1960s and 1970s (e.g. Children’s Letters to God).
Co-creators of the Kiwi Kids’ Letters series, Husband and Wife team Phil & Gillian Kerslake loved those early books and had long planned to develop their own series with a distinctly NZ flavour. “Industry folk tell us this has not been done in NZ before here” said Mr Kerslake.
Known for his best-selling book Life, Happiness… & Cancer, well-known cancer survivor and patient advocate Mr Kerslake said “This was a chance to celebrate NZ Children. Since Gill and I started our own family – Rhys, 5 and Matthew, 4, we have had an even more heightened awareness of just how precious Kids and families are to our Country.
We believe our book Kiwi Kids’ Letters to Mum captures some of the magic of Kiwi Children. They’re terribly funny, quirky and often very touching. We hope Kiwis will love this book as much as we do. And they will make the perfect gift for Mums, for Mother’s Day (12 May), Birthdays, Xmas and beyond. We hope it will be around for a long time”.
Following in the series will be ‘Kiwi Kids’ Letters to Dad’ and a Xmas edition. Mr Kerslake acknowledged NZ Post’s ‘Kiwi Kids Letters to Santa’ interactive Xmas letter programme. “We love what NZ Post do for Children every year. We would naturally give our book a different title, or, NZ Post may consider partnering with us to extend our series while giving their programme an extra dimension too?
Kiwi Kids’ Letters to Mum publishes in hardback, in full colour, and retails for $20. It will be in stores within one – two weeks and is also sold directly from the Publisher’s website.
