Maori Television Launches New Website
Maori Television has launched a completely new website, www.maoritelevision.com, providing viewers around the world with greatly enhanced access to its most popular programming and the latest in news and current affairs, on any device.
The new-look website reaffirms Maori Television’s position as the leading Maori media organisation as it continues to adapt to meet the expectations of its viewers on-air and online. With over a thousand episodes available, viewers will be able to discover and ‘catch up’ on their favourite programmes from both the Maori Television and Te Reo channels.
New features include the opportunity to provide feedback in real time, comment on selected news stories and share what is going on in your world with a ‘Share Your News’ function. It also features increased social media engagement with viewers able to recommend, share and tweet almost all online content.
Offering viewers the ability to access and interact with content online has become vital to support language revitalisation objectives, says Chief Executive Jim Mather:
“This is a website that embraces everything Maori Television does and as we head towards our 9th anniversary, it marks a significant development. We are fast becoming a digital multi-media organisation - this is not a standard refresh, it’s a complete overhaul.”
As well as improved accessibility, Maori Television has focussed on creating a stronger dual-language offering. Users will be able to search for programmes based on individual language interest, by selecting the appropriate level ranging from high amounts of Maori language through to high amounts of English. They will also be able to move easily between Maori and English language content.
Speaking of the improved functionality Stephen Smith, General Manager Digital says: “Our dual language proposition makes us far more accessible to all New Zealanders and with the benefit of a fully responsive web design, users across a broad range of devices and browsers will have access to a single source of content laid out so as to be easy to view and navigate on all devices regardless of the operating system or video format.”
The website’s vibrant artwork, created by well-known New Zealand artist Shane Hansen, aims to reflect the core principles of Maori Television: Ma ratou, ma matou, ma koutou, ma tatou. For them, for us, for you, for all of us.
“This new website and range of refreshed social media, YouTube and other online resources greatly increases the accessibility of Maori Television to both new and existing audiences,” says Jim Mather, “We’re delighted with the results so far and look forward to introducing further exciting features in the future”.
