He was there at the beginning and he’s still here. Bobby Womack is a soul survivor. Fifty years ago he helped out a struggling R&B band from London score their first hit with a song he wrote. The band…The Rolling Stones, the song…It’s All Over Now.
In 2010 he helped another English band. This time it was Damon Albarn’s Gorillaz. That’s Bobby Womack’s distinctive vocal on Stylo, one of the standout tracks from Plastic Beach. Daman Albarn returned the favour by co-producing Bobby Womack’s “comeback” album, 2012’s The Bravest Man In The Universe.
This week sees the release of The Bravest Man in The Universe Expanded Edition available only through iTunes as well as the premiere of his new video on the 23rd of March. Bobby Womack will also be appearing on the Jonathon Ross show this Sunday, performing alongside Damon Albarn.
Just announced is a one-off show at Auckland’s Civic Theatre in May with a 15-piece band. With a career that has spanned over 50 years, Bobby Womack is a man showing no signs of slowing down.
