The Documentary New Zealand Trust presents
THE DOCUMENTARY EDGE INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL 2013.
INTERNATIONAL SUPERTEAM OF DOCO MAKERS FLY TO NEW ZEALAND!
An esteemed group of international delegates will be making their way to New Zealand to participate in the annual Documentary Edge International Festival 2013, as the countdown to Auckland’s opening night continues.
From influential directors to producers of some of the incredible films that will be playing in both Auckland and Wellington, this “international super hero team” will be on hand to answer audience questions, offer their perspectives of documentary making and give an insight into the film-making process behind each film they are associated with.
Already announced earlier this year was the exciting news that IDFA director and founder, Ally Derks, will be in Auckland as a keynote speaker at this year’s Screen Edge Forum and is to be honoured at the 2013 Documentary Edge Awards. Ally brings a resounding prestige to this year’s festival given her unmitigated influence on the documentary genre across the world – and is one of the most highly regarded figures within the scene.
She is joined by acclaimed Canadian director Ric Esther Bienstock, the director of Tales from the Organ Trade, making its world premiere as part of this year’s festival. Bienstock has produced and directed an eclectic array of films, including investigative social issue documentaries such as Emmy award-winning Sex Slaves (2006) and Ebola: Inside an Outbreak.
Scarlett Road, the Australia documentary regarding a sex worker specializing in a long-overlooked clientele – people with disability – will no doubt be a flashpoint for discussion and perhaps even controversy this year. While the director, Catherine Scott, will be unable to attend, Rachel Wotton, the sex worker herself, will instead be taking her place!
Doc Edge 2013 also welcomes Nitzan Gilady, director of Family Time, A story of three brothers trying to find their own self-fulfilment and identity versus their parents’ dreams, hopes and expectations. Nitzan will no doubt be happy to discuss the time he spent in a small crowded RV as his family travelled to the Grand Canyon – along with an excess of emotional baggage.
Also making the trip to New Zealand for this year’s festival are Liz Burke (producer - Missing in the Land of the Gods), Corey Tong (rep – Seeking Asian Female) and Genevieve Bailey (director – I Am Eleven)
The Documentary Edge International Film Festival 2013 runs:
Auckland – 10th – 21st April, Q Theatre, Queen Street
Wellington – 8th – 19th May, Reading Cinemas Courtney and The Film Archive
The Screen Edge Forum 2013 will be held 18-19 April at Auckland University of Technology.
