Comedic Experimentation

NEW ZEALAND COMEDY TRUST PRESENTS
COMEDY LAB

It’s an age old question in comedy – how do performers manage to hone their works before embarking on their seasons during the NZ International Comedy Festival? Surely it’s not just pure luck (despite what some might say).
So in the name of scientific experimentation, comedians performing as part of the 2013 Festival will test their works on human guinea pigs with the return of the Comedy Lab, taking place throughout March and early April. This is a chance for audiences to get a sneak peek into the creative process that goes into building a Comedy Festival show.

For the comics, it’s a chance to see what flies and what crashes and burns with the test subjects (that’s you, the faithful comedy punter), to ensure only the top notch comedy chemicals make it to the Festival.

Over three weeks, well known comedic scholars will mediate the proceedings as the future jokes and stories are changed, distilled and made ready for consumption at the Festival.

LAB WORKER REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE: an ability to laugh, finely tuned comedy ears, and the ability to give opinions on the performances in a frank Q&A session with the jokesters themselves.
