Winter Games NZ chairman, Sir Eion Edgar said there was an unprecedented level of interest ahead of this year’s event with the reputation of the Games growing around the world and the 2014 Winter Olympics just around the corner.
“New Zealand will once again be the focus of the world’s snow sports community this August. We look forward to welcoming thousands of athletes, coaches, media and spectators to our excellent facilities and broadcasting the event to millions more around the world,” he said.

Bronze for Murphy at
Paralympic test event
One of New Zealand's top adaptive athletes, snowboarder Carl Murphy grabbed a bronze medal at the recent Paralympic test event in Sochi, Russia which hosts the 2014 Winter Paralympic Games.
Carl's event, snowboard cross, will be included in the Paralympic programme for the first time next year and will also be a feature of Winter Games NZ 2013 which is hosting an IPC World Cup race at Cardrona on 19th August.
Coach Adam Dooney said, “Taking bronze today shows that we have got work to do but that we are well on track for success in the 2014 Paralympic Winter Games back here in a year’s time. Now that we have been on the track, and seen what the terrain is like we have a good understanding of how and where we can make up time over the next few months.”
