TXT Campaign Will Help Make Wishes Come True
March 19, 2013
Incredible numbers of visitors to the Make-A-Wish ® Field of Dreams Summer Festival at Fairway Bay on the Whangaparaoa Peninsula and a txt campaign launched last week has boosted the amount of money raised so far to make sure more wishes can be granted to eligible children and young people this year.
The txt campaign, courtesy of Run the Red, has already raised $22,000 and people can still text DREAM to 5338 to donate $3 until the end of the festival on March 24.
An amazing number of people have turned out for the Make-A-Wish Field of Dreams Summer Festival so far, with more than 1300 people enjoying the open air cinema from Thursday to Saturday nights, and thousands more attending the markets and festival days.
As well as the final three movies from Thursday to Saturday this week – Field of Dreams, Katy Perry: Part of Me and Dr Suess’ The Lorax - the penultimate event of the festival is on this Sunday, March 24. It features a music festival with local talent including Tantrum, Danielle and Ainslie Davies, Creme Brulee and Craig McTavish.
Carolyn MacDonell, CEO of Make-A-Wish, says she is delighted with how the festival has gone so far and is really stunned by people’s generosity.
“Every dollar donated from this festival will go towards making children’s wishes come true. The generosity of everyone involved from our sponsors - the Fairway Bay team, Harcourts, Times FM, and Cadbury – to our festival supporters Open Air Cinema, Dragon Boating Auckland, the fishing contest, Coastguard Northern, Auckland Police, Vintage Car Club, Megs Miniatures, and to the market stallholders, festival attendees and Run the Red, we are so appreciative of your support,” she says.
“Sometimes the best medicine does not come from a hospital – it comes through the strength, hope and joy provided by the granting of a child or young persons most cherished wish. The donations received from this festival will enrich the lives of many children and young people and provide a once-in-a-lifetime experience that produces long lasting positive memories, an emotional escape from their illness, and an opportunity to anticipate and celebrate a truly joyful experience. For this we are truly grateful.”
Make-A-Wish makes wishes come true for eligible New Zealand children with life-threatening medical conditions. Funds raised help grant wishes to sick kiwi kids all over New Zealand. Wishes are essential for these sick children.
A wish generates hope and a positive outlook for all. A wish is a source of emotional and physical strength for the wish child and enables them to withstand the challenges of a life-threatening illness. A wish also fosters lasting joy and happiness for the child, wish parents, volunteers, supporters and medical/healthcare professionals, and the community.

Since formed in New Zealand in 1986, Make-A-Wish has raised funds and granted wishes to over 1300 sick children. While Make-A-Wish® New Zealand is an affiliate of Make-A-Wish® International, fundraising in New Zealand is for the wishes of children and young people with life-threatening medical conditions in New Zealand.
“Please do join us this week
for our final week people. You will still be able to
continue to help our cause by purchasing a replica fabric
sunflower as well as giving donations while they are at the
festival,” urges Carolyn
MacDonell.
