The Billys at Their Gut-Busting Best
NEW ZEALAND COMEDY TRUST PRESENTS
BEST OF THE BILLYS
HOSTED BY PAUL EGO
Billy T James and his yellow towel changed the face of comedy in New Zealand and every year the Festival honours ‘our cuz’ with a showcase known as Best of the Billys, taking place on Sunday 5th May at 7pm.
Throughout the years, the Billy T Award has been the highest accolade up and coming Kiwi comedians could achieve at the NZ International Comedy Festival. Many of these comedians have gone on to lead incredible careers including the likes of Dai Henwood, Ben Hurley, Paul Ego, Te Radar, Brendhan Lovegrove, The Boy With Tape On His Face, and even Jermaine Clement and Taika Waititi (as The Humourbeasts) have all won the sacred yellow towel.
Paul Ego, Billy T Award 2001 winner and star of 7 Days will be playing host to a swag of previous winners at SKYCITY Theatre, including everyone’s favourite ‘Westie’, the V8 of Comedy Ewen Gilmour (Billy T Award Winner 1997), who can also boast about winning the ‘Comedian of the Decade’ Award at the 2010 NZ Comedy Guild Awards.
Steve Wrigley (Billy T Award Winner 2008) - known for his appearances on 7 Days alongside Paul Ego - will join this winning line-up, along with the most recent recipient of the award, Guy Williams – famed for his work on TV3’s Jono and Ben at 10, as well as his role in the infamous pro-whaling hoax on TVNZ’s Breakfast programme, and more stars to be announced…
Experience true blue Kiwi comedy at its finest!
