The Easter Story told through texting, Facebook and twitter
On Good Friday, 29 March, at 11am, thousands of phones will beep around New Zealand with a text message from a thief:
I'm dying on a cross beside Jesus. I'm guilty, but him... Is it all true? He looks at me, says:"Today you'll be with me in paradise."
This is just one of 30 messages that will be delivered free of charge to participants of Kiwieaster throughout Holy week (24 -31 March 2013).
Kiwieaster - an initiative of the Presbyterian Youth Ministry - retells the Easter story through text message, facebook and twitter and is returning due to its success in 2012.
Those that received the text messages in 2012 described Kiwieaster as "powerful and moving" and said that receiving the story by text message brought a "fresh perspective" on this classic story.
Each message comes from the perspective of a biblical character at the time of day you find the event in the Bible.
Gordon Fitch, National Youth Coordinator of Presbyterian Youth Ministry says, "Easter is the most important date on the Christian calendar but it can easily be overlooked. The success of Kiwieaster is due to people being able to focus on the Easter story within their busy schedule. The texts take people by surprise."
Anyone in New Zealand can sign up for this free service by texting "follow kiwieaster" to 8987.
