10th Year Monster Fringe to Launch This Evening!
Keen-eyed observers will have noticed a hive of activity in the centre of Dunedin over the past 24 hours as the 10th Year Monster Fringe moves its way in to The Octagon and transforms it into the Festival Hub, the centre of activity for the 2013 Dunedin Fringe Festival.
The Festival will be launched this evening (Wednesday March 13) at 8pm and will feature the opening of five shipping containers filled with art installations ranging from video, to dance, and performance art. These shipping containers will be a semi-permanent fixture in The Octagon for the duration of the Fringe Festival and together with the Festival Kiosk and the daily Artist Showcase at 12 noon will form the Festival Hub.
Tonight, Rochelle Brophy and her aerial performance students will treat audiences to aerial acrobatics on silks from a crane above The Octagon. Music will be provided by Dunedin band Males, and special preview performances by Festival artists will also take place, all this and a night market that will have artists showcasing a unique range of art objects.
This special pre-Festival opening event is suitable for all ages.
The 2013 Dunedin Fringe Festival officially begins on March 14 and runs until March 24. More details can be found online at www.dunedinfringe.org.nz
