Great music and food at Te Waimate Fete

Great music and food at Te Waimate Fete

Te Waimate Mission will hold one last hurrah for summer with a Fete that will offer some of the best of local food, wine and entertainment (March 24, 1-7pm).

Local singer/songwriter Divah Jo Murray will be performing at the NZ Historic Places Trust property at Waimate North, with her group MamaD and the Devolutions, along with one-man-band Max Cochrane.

The day will also feature up-and-coming solo artists from the area including Te Rina Kahle from Kaeo, Cameron Galbraith from Matua and Joshua Matene from Kaikohe to name a few.

The opening Act of the day will feature well known National/International entertainer Casey Murray with her original welcoming song Haere Mai, Welcome to NZ as featured at the Cloud Arena Auckland for the New Zealand Rugby World Cup, followed by kapa haka group Nga Puriri O Taiamai.

Divah Jo Murray, who is also the Entertainment Event Manager for the fete, says it will be a wonderful day to come out with the whole whanau to enjoy and listen to some amazing local talent.

And if that entertainment line-up wasn’t enough, Kerikeri’s Ake Ake Winery will offer a selection of their wine for sale, and a delicious range of food will also be provided.

“Entry to the fete will be free, though we will be providing special guided tours of the Mission House for a gold coin donation,” says the Manager of Te Waimate Mission Mita Harris.

“We’re looking forward to entertaining our visitors with the best of heritage, music, food and wine – all delivered with a bit of class as befits this beautiful building and grounds.”

Mita is confident that the weather will be good, and with daylight saving still in place people can look forward to a leisurely afternoon of great food, wine and entertainment running into the early evening.

A vintage bus will also provide a shuttle service between Kerikeri and Te Waimate Mission for a nominal charge courtesy of Pete’s Pioneer and Transport Museum.

Mita hopes the fete will grow to become an annual event, showcasing the best of local entertainment and delicacies.

“Te Waimate Mission has to be one of the most beautiful places in Northland, and is perfect for family events like the Fete,” he says.

“Where else can you enjoy food, wine and live music, while exploring at leisure New Zealand’s second oldest house and the archaeological remains of one of the country’s earliest farming enterprises.”

Don’t miss the Te Waimate Fete, March 24, 1-7pm. Entry free; tour of Te Waimate Mission by gold coin donation.
