Iconic Kiwi business are getting behind Pasifika Festival this weekend with a host of free and fun attractions, and opportunities to win great prizes.
Pasifika Festival is an annual event that draws thousands of people from around the country and internationally to celebrate Pacific culture.
Local businesses are also keen to support this two-day festival offering sponsorship, fun activities and competitions around the park.
Tip Top ice cream, has been a partner of Pasifika Festival for the last 10 years. This year, Tip Top is showcasing its custom-made Pasifika Sundae. Consisting of two scoops of Tip Top ice cream, real kiwi-fruit pieces, pineapple lumps and topped with coconut shavings, passionfruit sauce and a wafer biscuit. Don’t miss this delicious treat available from the two silver Tip Top caravans.
Visit Frucor’s thirst quenching stalls near the Aotearoa Village and grab a cool Pepsi, Mountain Dew or a free snow cone. Get your photo taken with a virtual Beyonce in the Pepsi photo booth and share it with your friends on Facebook. Show off your Xbox skills to the Mountain Dew team and win a free headband.
Test your artistic flair and design a 2degrees Pasifika Magic Number logo near the Aotearoa Feature Stage. You could win a Samsung S Duos and 2degrees SIM with a $19 Combo Pack. Or visit the 2degrees Connection Point near Gateway 2 and make a free five minute call to anywhere in the world.
Long term Pasifika partners, AUT Manukau Campus, will also be there with its ‘no more obstacles’ obstacle course – an interactive demonstration that nothing needs to stand in your way for higher education.
For the first time Pasifika Festival will be completely smoke free. Quitline staff will be walking around the event, offering free quitting gum, patches and lozenges as well as advice to help people quit smoking. There will also be a Smokefree youth tent with celebrities from the Smoking Not Our Future campaign where young people can make their own campaign poster.

21 years of showcasing Pacific cultures

Saturday 9 March, 10am to 5pm – Western Springs will be
transformed into 10 villages from Samoa, Fiji, Tonga, Cook
Islands, Tokelau, Niue, Tahiti, Kirbati, Tuvalu and
Aotearoa. Each village will offer food, art, dance and
music.
• Sunday 10 March:
9am to 10am –
Enjoy a special combined church service celebrating Pacific
culture and faith
10am to 4pm – Experience the culture
of 10 Pacific nations by visiting the villages positioned
around Western Springs Park.
• Proceeds from
fundraising at the 2013 Pasifika Festival will be donated to
Make a Wish New Zealand which supports children with
life threatening illnesses.
